OUR MISSION
- to rescue the rescuers -
Motorcycle Missions is committed to helping First Responders – Firefighters, Paramedics, EMTs, Nurses, Police Officers – and Military Veterans who are suffering from psychological trauma.
Our innovative approach to Throttle Therapy provides heroes who are hesitant to seek traditional forms of mental healthcare with a way to begin to heal and recover from PTS(D), anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, and other forms of psychological pain.
Our programs engage participants in enjoyable and meaningful activities while safely fulfilling the adrenaline rush rescuers tend to crave. Through a combination of camaraderie, a shared sense of purpose, mindfulness practices, and good old-fashioned fun, Motorcycle Missions serves those who served: The heroes who were willing to sacrifice everything to keep the rest of us safe.

Krystal Hess
If anyone understands the challenges of starting over, it’s Krystal Hess. In 2011, Krystal left an abusive marriage. She dreamed of reinventing herself by moving from Canada to the sunny southwestern United States and learning to ride motorcycles. “I didn’t ever have bikes on my radar until I got divorced in Canada,” she said. “It was going to be my way of starting over, doing something cool.” Krystal met a guy who built custom motorcycles and moved to Austin, Texas to be with him. Within a year of her move, however, her new boyfriend attempted suicide, involving Krystal in a traumatic way. Once again, Krystal found herself picking up the pieces of her life — and the pieces of a motorcycle they had planned to rebuild together. “I had this big problem on my hands,” she said. “I had a motorcycle that I owned that was in a million pieces.” Rebuilding that motorcycle changed her life, and made her a true believer in the transformative power of two-wheeled machines. “I compare it to [the healing process] all the time,” said Krystal. Every part I put on the bike, I put back together a part of myself.” Since then, Krystal has rebuilt several motorcycles, started a successful powder coating business, and founded Motorcycle Missions, a nonprofit dedicated to helping veterans with PTSD heal through motorcycles.

Sofi Tsingos
You might expect someone whose childhood memories include being strapped to the tank of a motorcycle and taken for a ride to be very wary of bikes as an adult.
But it seems that this very experience had the opposite effect on 36-year-old Texan, Sofi Tsingos, who has enjoyed a lifelong love affair with motorized machinery. And the culprit? Her dad.
Sofi grew up messing around with old cars and motorcycles in her father’s workshop. And the two still work together in their two-car garage in the northern suburbs of Dallas, otherwise known as the headquarters of their motorcycle customization business, GT-Moto.
