Chris Denton: Nepal Giveaway & The Trip of a Lifetime
Share
While the term “ride of a lifetime” shows up a lot when talking about motorcycle travel, exploring the roads of Nepal clearly deserves the title. At the Mama Tried show in Milwaukee this year, veteran Chris Denton came face-to-face with the opportunity. Motorcycle Missions, in conjunction with Motorcycle Sherpa, chose to honor Denton not just for his military service, but also for his strong advocacy for veterans and first responders who struggle with PTSD.

The announcement was definitely a shock to Chris. 'I was just standing there during the announcements, and, you know, I've done a lot of these types of events [as a volunteer] so I wasn't really paying that close attention, when all the sudden I'm up on stage and they're explaining all this.' It was a very spontaneous moment for all involved.

Chris began to detail some of his experiences candidly, from a near-fatal overdose to completely turning his life around after participating in one of Motorcycle Missions' custom bike builds. From there Chris has been one of the organization's most prolific volunteers, sharing his story and the benefits of coming together with other veterans and first responders to do bike builds, off-road riding clinics, track days, and the other “throttle therapy” events Motorcycle Missions organizes throughout the country.
It was such a deeply honest and real moment that many in the crowd, as well as on the stage, were left misty-eyed.

The trip is one of many put on by Motorcycle Sherpa, who operate guided tours in more than five countries on multiple continents. In a unique twist, Chris had already been looking at a trip to Nepal. 'My mother was a missionary and traveled all over. Every place she'd go, she'd bring me back a Hard Rock Cafe T-shirt if they had one [in that country.] When we lost her last February [2025] it really got me thinking...how I need to do these things now. It is just that much more present in my mind.'
While flight arrangements are currently tricky (most flights from the US to Nepal stop over in the Gulf states affected by the current war in Iran), Chris is looking at each date Motorcycle Sherpa has on their calendar. Each is a 10-day event, highlighting the natural beauty of the Himalayan terrain and the unique culture of the small country, nestled between India and China.
